Media Festival Weekend!

All right friends!  Media Festival is looming around the corner and I know that you all have some great ideas ready to turn into projects!

This is just a reminder that if you would like to come to the school and work on your Media Festival project, I have set aside TWO days!  The first day is Friday, February 8 from 3-4 pm.  Please remember that your parents must bring you BACK to the school.  You cannot stay with me or your homeroom teacher.  You must go home and return at 3.  Please be sure to have your parents pick you up promptly at 4.  We will move to the front of the building and be waiting at 4 pm for your rides home.

The second day will be Saturday, February 9 during Saturday school hours 9-11 am.  Please be sure to have your parents drop you off at the bus ramp by A-Wing.  This is where they will need to pick you up at as well.  Remind your parents to be prompt!

Please be sure that you have your story written,  your pictures ready, and that you are ready to get on the computer/netbook/laptop/etc... to work!  This is not "Help me come up with an idea" time.  This is "I have an idea, I have my story, I have my pictures, and I am ready to put it together" time.

Also, you will need to know if you are going to be using Windows Movie Maker, PhotoStory, a PowerPoint presentation, or another program to put this together.

Remember - Media Festival is an OPTIONAL assignment.  Please do not come to the school these two days if you do not plan to WORK!  You should have invested some time at home - planning, writing, drawing - and be ready to put it together when you come Friday afternoon and/or Saturday morning.

Everything will be saved to the server at the school.  HOWEVER, if you do not finish and you have the program you need at home, you may bring a jump drive to save your work and take it home to work on.

If you have any questions, please post them below!  I'll be more than happy to help you!

Also, I would like for you to put the title or a general description of your Media Festival project in a comment below.

P.S.  Clarissa - we miss you and hope you're not terribly ill!

Media Festival

All right friends!  It's that time of the year!  Media Festival is quickly coming our way.

According to the Georgia Student Media Festival website:

"The purpose of the festival is to stimulate student interest and involvement in all types of media production. This is accomplished by providing an opportunity for students to show their work to an interested audience, to have their work critiqued by a panel of expert judges, and to be stimulated by the work of other students.

K-12 festival activities progress through three successive levels: building, system, and state. Entries must be evaluated at each level and receive a superior rating in order to proceed to the next level. Private schools are responsible for contacting the public school system in their geographic area for information on system or state level judging."

So basically, you're going to create a movie or presentation of your choice, on a topic of your choice!  You can choose any "program" of your choice.  Some options are Windows Movie Maker, PhotoStory, iMovie, or Microsoft PowerPoint.  You can incorporate illustrated pictures (pictures you drew), live action (video), or photographs.  Everything that you use in the project must be done by you - you drew the picture, you filmed the video, you took the photo.  You may work individually or you may work in a group.  It's up to you!

Remember, I will be giving extra credit to students who complete a project and have it ready for submission by February 20.

Also, I will try to work in at least 1, if not 2, day(s) to work with anyone who wants help after school.  It will most likely be a Monday or a Friday.  Your parents will need to bring you back to the school at 3:00 and we will stay until 4:00 pm.  Your parents will need to be sure to pick you up on time.  Once I look over my schedule, I will let you know the date(s) and get permission slips written up and approval from the administration.

Ok.  Now that I've gotten all the boring stuff out of the way...

What are you going to do your Media Festival Project on?

More iMovie Fun!

If the internets had cooperated with me earlier this week, I would have been able to have all the trailers up that were completed in class.  However, since it didn't want to, here's round 2!

iMovie fun!

We're still working on integrating our iPads into our classroom instruction.  We took some time this month to create movie trailers in iMovie that can be used to introduce learning topics next year!  The kids worked really hard on these and learned how to manipulate iMovie quickly!

I will post the rest of the videos later this week!  Just in time for you to share with the relatives you'll see over Christmas break!

Turkeys, families, and a whole week off!

Happy Thanksgiving break to all my wonderful dumplings! During this week, I know many of you may be traveling to visit family or you may have family coming in to visit. Please be sure to share our blog with them and let them see what we're doing in class!

I encourage you to use Study Island over the break to keep your brains in working order!

I hope you have a wonderful break and enjoy your time with your families!

I leave you with this nifty little thing I created in my training today:

Another Long Weekend!

Another long weekend for you lucky ducks! I certainly hope that those of you who haven't finished your rough drafts will work on those this weekend. I need you to be ready to work on your final copies when you come back Tuesday.

In other news, the Children's Book Festival is this weekend in Savannah. You can meet your favorite children's book authors, get free goodies, and even buy some books! I hope you get to check it out! Maybe you'll see me and Austyn there!

What are your plans for this weekend?
